PULP: Soft tissue inside the tooth that contains blood vessels and nerves.
CROWN of the tooth: The portion of the tooth that is visible above the gum line.
PULP CHAMBER: Pulp extends down through the canal to the tip of the root to the bone.
Root Canal Treatment: An opening is made though the CROWN of the tooth to the PULP CHAMBER, decay is removed and canals are cleaned out. The canals and PULP CHAMBER are filled, a post is usually placed in the tooth to stabilize it and support the final restoration.
Alternative: Alternative: To do nothing, and risk further infection, swelling, pain etc. or to have the tooth extracted.
*In rare instances, you may need to be referred to a root canal specialist (Endodontist).
